(Our Love Poem)

It was later when I no longer believed,

I discovered you, Love.

Glancing wildly, eyes damp from waiting in the silence.

You came through, just as the night sky began to gather light.

You said “I can’t go on without you.”

Even though so many nights before

You told me the opposite, Love,

That morning you suddenly changed our world.

All I ever wanted was to feel the bliss

of love burning us into a deeper compassion.

When you resisted, I opened the gate wide.

I took nothing from you, so it seemed.

But this morning, your knock was hard and loud,

I opened the door to let you in once again.

Your look as you whispered, “It is you.” ended the test.

My lilac wish, blossomed, wilted yet sweet.

We fell in, our caresses like prayers answered.

Each kiss, healing old wounds, tears touching

places that no other might ever know.

Love, you finally knew you wanted me.

In the early dawn, we lit lover’s candles,

As like children playing, in the noon of a summer day,

We swam in the sea of our senses,

Entwined as one, for such a long time, it seemed.

When love arrives sweet as honey,

It has no scheme, only the truth of feeling.

Open, surrounded by light we hope will linger,

As the sun rises, moving the day.

On our day of two from one, for good,

We closed the door to the outer world.

Our human yearning fulfilled, in the now of new love,

This gift joined us to the stars, forever.

Under the sun, for millions of years.

Loving each day we have, we should be as they were,

The first man and woman to stand up,

Stand up with Love to nourish our world.
